Since its first performance in Paris in 1841, Giselle has become one of the world's great classical ballets. I first saw it at the National Arts Centre over 10 years ago, and I'm thrilled it's making a triumphant return next week. The Shanghai Ballet performs Giselle November 10, 11, and 12 at the NAC!
For those unfamiliar with the story, Giselle is the heart-wrenching tale of a peasant girl betrayed by her beloved, a total douchebag named Loys (I'm #TeamGiselle). You'll become completely wrapped up in the tragic story, the exquisite dancers, and the beautiful set.
Think colourful harvest scenes followed by the cold and silvery spirit world that torments Giselle.
Renowned for the elegance and superb technique of its dancers, the prestigious Shanghai Ballet is back at NAC for the first time in 30 years, with a magnificent interpretation of this iconic ballet. Personally, I'm excited to see how choreographer Xin Lili reimagines this classic piece.
